History

Over 4600 years ago, many Asian tribes were already using Chaga, a medicinal fungus, to retain a healthy balance in life energy (or “chi”), to stay young, active and healthy for longer and to stimulate the natural immune system of the body. Using Chaga, they were more resistant to viral and bacterial infections, and they also relied on the anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties of the mushroom.

As a natural remedy, Chaga was used in several ways – the dried fungus would be ground to powder which they burned inhaling the smoke, but they also made tea from it and used it in potions and liniments that would be rubbed into the skin to heal injuries or rashes.

The monk Shen Nong, who is considered one of the founders of traditional Chinese medicine, considered Chaga a very important therapeutic and beneficial remedy, not only because it has so many homeopathic properties, but mainly because it is extremely effective. Since those days, Chaga has been used for many diseases and disorders, such as viral infections, ulcers and problems with hormonal imbalance, as well as to detoxify the body.

Both in China and Japan many people drink Chaga extract with water or syrup daily to prevent illness, although some prefer to take capsules or pills.

Chaga is also widely used in the Russian culture. Many families drink Chaga tea every day to stimulate the immune system and to provide the body with many necessary minerals and antioxidants.

Stories about this medicinal fungus only reached the western world at the end of the 60s, for example through the book “Cancer Ward” by Nobel Prize winner Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. He extensively describes how he was arrested after having criticized Russian warfare during World War II and even Stalin personally and was then imprisoned in a labor camp.

During his time in prison he developed cancer that metastasized into the lungs, liver and intestines. Although the doctors diagnosed him as terminal, he was given Chaga tea every day, more or less as an experiment, and against all expectations he recovered.

Chaga use is spreading worldwide since many people become aware of it's healing properties to support the immunesystem and live a more balanced life.
